An endowed scholarship, often established in honor or in memory of an individual, is designed to be permanent and perpetual. It can be created with gifts totaling a minimum of $25,000 (if the donor chooses to set parameters that must be met, such as a required minimum GPA or for the scholarship to be awarded to a student from a certain geographic area, for example). The principal of the fund is invested to produce income from which the scholarship is annually awarded. The principal remains untouched, so the endowment can last into perpetuity.
